Some digital printing technologies cause a major challenge to deinking systems. Whereas dry toner prints are generally good deinkable, a positive prognosis cannot be given for many inkjet and for polyethylene based liquid toner prints. The stakeholders in the paper value chain have to react on these findings in order not to cause major and frequent incidences or declining quality in deinking operations with increasing market shares of these printing technologies.
