Electrostatic Precipitation on a Biomass Boiler Using Higher Frequency Power Supplies: A Case Study, 2013 PEERS Conference

This paper summarizes the operation of different types of power supplies for electrostatic precipitators. The three types discussed are conventional transformer rectifiers with thyristor switches, high frequency switch mode power supplies, and mid-frequency switch mode power supplies. The benefits and drawbacks of each type are outlined on the basis of electrical operating parameters, reliability, and cost. A case study is provided to demonstrate the increase in efficiency when using mid-frequency power supplies over conventional transformer rectifiers on biomass-fired power boilers.
