Microstickies can pass through a 150 micrometer screening plate and cause significant problems in the paper industry after agglomeration and deposition. Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) is a main source of pressure sensitive adhesives and was chosen as the model compound. A silicon wafer coated with cellulose that has similar property with fiber was prepared for microstickies deposition measurement. The deposition tendency of PVAc was measured by the model surface in water and in water/fiber systems. In addition, two methods, shear rate and aeration, were used to induce the agglomeration of microstickies. The model surface was characterized by XPS and water contact angle. The results from new methods were also compared with old methods of HDPE deposition and INGEDE Methods.
