Deinking mills are forced to reduce their fresh water consumption with a resulting higher load of various contaminants in the process water. Also lower recovered paper quality leads to higher contamination levels in the mills. This higher load has an influence on achieving the targeted brightness. The objective of the work was to determine the main reasons explaining poorer DIP quality or poorer deinking potential based on the impact of recovered paper composition and process water quality.
