Tamilnadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) undertook complete modernisation of its two bagasse fibre lines ( 180 tpd and 230 tpd ) into a single line of 500 tpd capacity using twin roll press technology, oxygen delignification stage and ECF bleaching. Modern Fiber Line Technologies require that quality raw material is fed to the pulping system. The main problem with bagasse is the presence of impurities like sand and pith. Bagasse being bulky raw material poses additional challenges in collection, transportation, storage and preservation. This article describes how the mill is able to meet these challenges in handling nearly one million tonnes of bagasse every year to feed the modern fiber line.
