The combustion air pre-heater (APH) in any boiler or process heater system is a critical operational component of the overall steam and power system, but one that is often under-maintained and often over-looked with regard to improving boiler performance. Regardless if the boiler is a solid, liquid, or gaseous fuel boiler, or even a pulp mill recovery boiler, combustion air pre-heater and combustion zone temperature directly correlate to boiler efficiency, and the generation of CO as well as PM emissions with only a minimal potential increase in NOx.
