Operational Issues, Poor Teamwork Bog Down Tissue Mill, Tissue360º Spring/Summer 2013
A European tissue mill was producing economical grade bath tissue on two 1970s vintage machines that each had a nominal capacity of about 100 metric tpd. Secondary fiber was being used for most of the furnish blend, yet manufacturing costs were quite high. The facility was struggling through management changes and serious labor strife between hourly employees and the supervisory staff. At the mill, we sensed that an autocratic management style was part of the challenge being faced with the headcount reduction effort in progress.
