This paper presents a reliable and predictive leak detection system for recovery boilers along with several practical
examples of detected leaks. This technology is based on sensors that continuously detect and record acoustic emission
signal levels of different boiler parts. High stress on metal construction, crack development, and turbulent leaks are
the main sources of acoustic emission signals. Over the past 20 years, 598 sensors have been installed on 18 recovery
boilers. Ongoing knowledge is incorporated into newer sensor designs, currently 4th generation.
