100 % recycled board grades have always had sheet strength challenges when compared to 100% virgin grades. Over the years many strength additives have been used with success. In many cases logistics have been a major issue as the volumes required mean bulk shipments and storage. A new approach to board grades is the use of enzyme based strength additives. Similar products have been widely used in tissue grades for over 10 years, but only in the last two years or so have they been successfully applied in board grades.
