Approximately 25% of the electrical power consumed in a paper mill is used by pump systems. Many pumps in these systems are oversized during the initial design. Once the system is placed in service, it meets the market conditions, changes to the process and wear of the various parts of the system. These common practices result in more energy going into the system than is needed by the process.
