Vacuum fabric conditioning has in the past been done with fixed speed vacuum pumps while permeability of fabrics varies from open to closed flow of air. Varying the vacuum pump speed from very fast to very slow in a programed relationship to fabric permeability has many unrealized sustainability benefits. Rationale suggests that slowing the vacuum pump speed as fabric permeability diminishes can maintain water removal while reducing the power to vacuum pumps. The potential power reductions from variable speed vacuum pump accentuates the need to reduce air leaks inside a corroded cast iron vacuum, referred to as “Vaneslip,” by using corrosion resistant stainless steel internal parts for extending the performance of productive airflow at vacuum.
