Optimization of the Mechanical Pulping Process and its Impact on Energy Consumption and Pulp Properties – Mill Investigation, 2016 International Mechanical Pulping (IMPC) Conference 

 Laboratory and pilot plant investigations over the last few years provided us with evidence that optimization of the TMP process, in particular reject refining, could lead to savings in refining energy with no adverse effect on pulp properties. In cooperation with a member mill producing TMP based SCA/SCA+ grade, we implemented some of the findings from the investigations at the mill with the objective of reducing production cost. We performed four mill trials in which changes to the refining and stock preparation systems were implemented and the impacts of those changes on pulp properties, operating units’ performance, and energy consumption were evaluated.
