March definitely went out with a roar this year as the 31st marked the official opening of the world’s newest paper mill, Pratt Paper’s Valparaiso, IN, 100 percent recycled paper facility.
The major piece of the US$260-million project was the installation of a Valmet OptiConcept M board machine that has a design speed of 1,200 m/min (3,900-4,000 ft/min) and a Voith Paper recovered fiber system that provides the recycled fiber. Nominal capacity is 1,000 tons/day, dependent, of course, on the grade being produced.
