Ozone bleaching is conducted either at medium or high pulp consistency, depending on the Z-stage process supplier. The choice of one process over another depends on a number of factors – including investment cost, carry-over load, bleaching filtrates recirculation, bleach plant temperature profile, footprint, and others – but has little if any impact on ozone bleaching efficiency itself (Germer et al., 2011). However, it does impact the bleaching sequence optimization.
