Who Is Going to Optimize Paper Machine Clothing?, PaperCon 2016
People in the P&P industry have gotten used to Paper Machine Clothing suppliers coming over to the mills and doing ‘free’ service measurements. This cooperation model between customer and supplier has its pros and cons, which this paper shortly addresses.
With today’s market conditions and internet-related new technologies in mind, the author presents the concept of a cloud database. Papermakers would continuously fill this database with standard measurement data, but only when the machine is running well. The clothing suppliers’ service engineers could then focus more on advanced troubleshooting.
By cooperating in this new way, the papermaker receives higher quality service with more added value from his clothing supplier, while at the same time the clothing supplier can reduce the costs for ‘standard’ service visits. Additionally, a large database will enable the development of online benchmarking and analysis tools, and possibly even automated advice through Big Data Analysis.
