Improved machine efficiency through addition of GCC filler in recycled liner and medium, PaperCon 2016
Availability and cost of raw materials for production of fiber-based packaging put a strong pressure on the search of alternative raw material sources. The demand of packaging material and climbing production capacities of paper and board intensifies the competition between the producers and results in a search for economical raw materials and processes.
Several mill trials shows the possibility to add fresh filler in existing recycled fiber based packaging papers as liner and corrugated medium. The fresh filler applied is Ground Calcium Carbonate added in amount from 2 to 6% of the production. The idea with fresh filler addition was tested and validated in a number mill trials at Thurpapier - Model AG, Switzerland. The concept has also been successfully tested with different secondary ash (recycled) levels, showing that the fresh GCC filler concept works also at increased secondary filler amount.
