LED BAsed Color Sensor for Paper WEb Measurement and Control, PaperCon 2016
A new, high performance LED based color sensor has been designed for papermaking applications where the sensor is deployed to scan and measure a moving web as it is being produced. This new sensor is a fully functional and accurate absolute color measurement which is capable of UV-included and UV-excluded measurements that allows color measurement and control of optically brightened webs. In comparison to discharge lamp color sensor technology, the unique properties of LED sources allow for fast, integrated color measurements in a sensor with no moving parts. This paper presents the measurement principles and opto-electronic design of the instrument together with representative data from real papermaking processes demonstrating the performance of the instrument for online
measurement and paper machine control.
