Standard Bleaching Sequences with Modern Ozone Technology, 2016 Pulping, Engineering, Environmental, Recycling, Sustainability (PEERS) Conference Proceedings
Ozone bleaching is today implemented by the main pulp and paper companies in ECF and TCF bleaching on kraft and sulfite pulps, hardwood and softwood ones and for all sorts of final product (copy paper, tissue, viscose, etc.) in 25 bleach plants worldwide. It proved as an economic and sustainable technology: 3 new ozone bleaching stages were started over the last 3 years of economic crisis, and the pace is foreseen to speed up in the coming years. That development is the result of 2 phenomena. Ozone generation technology improved over the last 10 years and now allows for lower investment costs and higher reliability. In parallel specialists achieved a better understanding of ozone bleaching and its impact on the overall bleaching process and vice-versa. Considering different raw materials, cooking conditions, oxygen delignification stages, and the sort of pulp to produce, the present article aims to make recommendations for the best bleaching sequences including an ozone stage.
