Editorial: Remembering Phil Clark: A Coating “Master Man”, TAPPI JOURNAL July 2018
A pillar of the Coating and Graphic Arts (C&GA) community, Philip Charles (Phil) Clark, passed away this June. Phil spent most of his career managing the Potlatch Paper Coating Division, a part of the company’s research department in Cloquet, MN. His technical contributions to the industry include development and introduction of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) coating pigments to the industry and invention and commercialization of high-solids coating formulations. Born in Syracuse, NY, in 1933, Phil received both his B.A. and M.S. degrees in Paper Chemistry from Syracuse University.
