How Hot is too Hot – White Water Heating, 18PaperCon

Papermakers are usually trying to get every ounce of production from their machines to improve the bottom line. One seemingly simple method to increase production is to increase the wire pit silo temperature, but simply adding more steam to the wire pit does not always mean more to the bottom line. This paper takes a scientific, theoretical approach to compare the benefits and risks of increased heating of the wet end of the machine.  A heat and mass balance of a typical machine is used to model heat lost while chemical reaction and corrosion rates are used to weigh the liabilities with increased temperatures.
