Steam System Optimization of a Linerboard Paper Machine, 18PaperCon
At Cascades, energy efficiency is one of our core value. With a dedicated team of 15 people focusing solely on energy efficiency and energy contracts, we can attribute an energy project engineer to each major energy consumer to help guide them in reducing their energy consumption. One of the recommended processes in selecting these energy-reducing opportunities is what we call “Kaizen Lean Energy”, where our energy specialists meet with the facility operations and management resources for a couple of days and identify together the most beneficial measures. In addition to this, there is an Energy Investment Fund which is a dedicated amount of CAPEX that will only fund projects that reduce energy consumption. Since its creation in 2004, more than 280 projects were funded and over 60 million dollars invested. A great example of the success of this system is the optimization of a steam network in the Mississauga mill.
