RELIABLE ON-LINE FORMATION MEASUREMENT, 18PaperCon
A new online formation imaging technology from IVS uses advanced image processing to measure spatial and intensity distribution of paper flocs and combine them into a uniform formation index that is independent from illumination changes. Numerous additional measures are also provided such as dark and light spot index, floc properties, and jet-to-wire speed ratio. This technology has been successfully applied to paper grades up to 560 g/m2.
The technology also offers special handling of specialty paper, e.g. mesh-reinforced filter papers. Advanced image processing separates the mesh structure from the underlying flocs and analyzes both separately, giving a correct formation index for the flocs, as well as providing information about the mesh integrity.
With the new formation index, papermakers will know, in real-time, the formation quality of the currently produced grade and will be able to make immediate adjustments to eliminate production loss due to out-of-spec formation.
