Enhanced-performance Infrared Sensors, 18PaperCon
Infrared absorption technology has been in use for scanning measurement of moisture and other qualities in paper and paperboard manufacturing for at least 50 years, and, during that period, infrared measurement of additional qualities have been developed. During the life of this technology, significant strides in measurement speed, accuracy and other capabilities have been realized, but, since the early days of infrared measurement, performance has been limited by the technologies available for execution of certain of the measurements’ various functions.
Two recently developed infrared sensors leverage both newly available and well proven technologies to extend the application range, improve spatial resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, accuracy, and response speed, while significantly simplifying maintenance and servicing. This paper describes the techniques deployed in the new sensors that, combined with new signal processing, communications and maintenance tools, result in a new higher level of infrared measurement performance.
