When I’m not busy doing editor stuff, I like to look at infographics. Statistical information pre-sented in a visual format speaks to both sides of our brain at once, for twice the immediate impact.One of the most interesting infographics to cross my desk recently was from a July 31 Bloomberg story by Dave Merrill and Lauren Leatherby titled “Here’s How America Uses its Land.” In a series of maps, the authors reveal what percent of the contiguous 48 states’ 1.9 billion acres is devoted to a variety of different uses, including urban development, timber-lands, and crops.
