Multiple Recycling of Paper Board: Determination of Changes in Characteristics of Paper Board and Assessment of the Maximum Number of Recycling Cycles Part I: Multiple Recycling of Corrugated Base Paper, 19PaperCon
Paper for recycling is an important source for the production of corrugated base paper. The change in production capacity towards more and more packaging papers affects the composition of recovered paper and influences the paper quality. Therefore, this research project investigates the influence of the multiple recycling of five different corrugated base papers (Kraftliner, NSSC-Fluting, corrugating medium, Testliner 2 and 3) on the suspension and strength properties under laboratory conditions. The corrugated board base papers are repulped in the LC pulper and processed into Rapid-Köthen laboratory sheets. These are then recycled up to 15 times in the same process. In each cycle, the suspension and the paper properties are recorded. A special focus is on the corrugated board specific parameters, such as SCT, RCT, CMT and burst pressure. Finally, a statement can be made how multiple recycling under laboratory conditions affects the fiber and paper properties.
