Reducing Batch Digester Vessel Wall Degradation Due to Corrosion and Erosion to Optimize Reliability and Productivity, 19PEERS
Digester vessel wall degradation due to corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and erosion has always been a costly and repetitive maintenance challenge for pulp mills. As documented in papers presented over the years, numerous solutions have been tried, from weld overlay to a variety of thermal spray claddings and liners, each with their strengths and weaknesses. This paper will provide a quick review of technologies currently being used, including more recent developments in cladding processes and materials that are demonstrating measurable advancements. These advancements improve process compatibility and protective layer density and robustness for longer maintenance‐free service life while reducing installation time and cost.
