Issues with Dust Control, 2021 TAPPICon Live (21TAPL)
Dust mitigation has been a very big focus for many of our tissue customers over the past few years. Recent industry trends have been the development of softer, higher quality tissue which tends to create more dust on the tissue machine. Requests for dust mitigation control strategies have grown accordingly.
Some tissue producers are now developing long term plans to mitigate dust on various machines within their organizations. Insurance requirements are also becoming more stringent for tissue manufacturers, some of which have been forced to meet certain guidelines when it comes to their machines. As a result, we have done many dust control systems rebuilds in this time frame.
Dust generated on the tissue machine causes many problems such as increased risk of fire. High dust concentrations may also cause health risks, allergies and illnesses for the operators on the machine. Dust on tissue surfaces also leads to dusting issues in converting operations, dusting in the printing machine and impression roller, impairing printing quality. Ultimately, the need for frequent manual cleaning of the paper machine surroundings decreases productivity.
