Consistency Measurement and Basic Tenets of Loop Design, 2021 TAPPICon Live (21TAPL)
Good consistency measurement and control is considered by some to be a lost art as many pulp and paper mills struggle with their consistency measurement program. The challenges are usually based on improper sensor selection, location, and sampling techniques. This article will address current measurement technology and how proper selection is based on application specifics and where proper sampling and data analysis is necessary to achieve the highest accuracy and repeatability possible. Additionally, basic consistency control loop guidelines, such as dilution systems, agitation, dilution valve selection, and others are proved to be essential when the desired result is a well -designed loop that can be optimally tuned to tightly control stock consistency with minimal variability.
