The Indian pulp and paper industry is faced with several challenges such as limited availability of good quality raw materials, high cost of basic inputs, traditional technology, limited resource and energy efficiency and environmental concerns (e.g., poor handling of internal process water, solid waste disposal and effluent treatment). To support the industry in overcoming such challenges, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has been implementing technical cooperation projects aimed at enhancing innovation and productivity, to building the competitiveness and sustainability of the Indian paper industry.
