Understanding Conventional Tissue Machine Air Side Drying, Tissue360º Spring/Summer 2021
In the early years of my career working in the tissue industry, when the opportunity arose I would talk with associates, supervisors, and management personnel about air side tissue drying.
Conventional operations were well under-stood by everyone. Optimization beyond what the supplier provided was not understood and not addressed. And I recognized that the gap between the rotating Yankee cylinder and the stationary air hoods was the holy grail of the machine; if the exhaust and makeup air flows were not precisely set, then air would be vented from the hood or infiltrated into the hood. The dynamics of the air flows created by the high speed of the Yankee assures there will be some infiltration.
