Vajda Papír Takes a Big Step Forward, Tissue360º Spring/Summer 2021
When you talk about companies that started up in a garage and were later extremely successful, one can’t help thinking about Microsoft, Apple, and others. But there are also many captains of industry out-side the internet economy who have worked their way up from modest beginnings with courage and farsightedness. And you don’t necessarily have to travel as far as Silicon Valley to find them. A visit to Hungary is worth it, too.
Vajda Papír operates a cutting-edge, com-pact plant in Hungary for the production of sanitary paper. The company was founded in 1999 in a backyard with only one machine producing toilet tissue. Today, just more than 20 years later, it is the market leader in Hungary, producing more than 100,000 tons of sanitary paper, for napkins, toilet tissue, and paper towels, for example. And that’s not all: The company’s own products are sold under the brand name “Ooops!” in large drugstore and supermarket chains in more than 20 other countries, mainly in Scandinavia, the Baltic states, and Eastern Europe.
