Silicone Applications in Pulp and Paper

Abstract:
Silicone, due to its unique properties such as low surface tension, good hydrophobicity, low coefficient of friction and
excellent thermal and chemical stability, is broadly used in many industries as additives to improve the process and
enhance the properties of a final product.
In this presentation, we will review the silicone applications in pulp and paper production, from a digester to a paper
machine. Applications cover silicone usage as a wetting agent for digester, as a defoamer and drainage aid for brown
stock washer, as a sizing and softening additive for paper forming section and as a release agent for dryer section.
