The Importance of Rubber Expansion Joints, TAPPICon22

In this presentation I will define: What an expansion joint is, why they are used, and some best practices for selection and installation. 

What is a rubber expansion joint? The Eric Blazej definition for a rubber expansion joint is: A connector, used in a piping system, to provide flexibility, made of rubber. Flexibility refers to movement in all directions: compression (movement inwards), expansion (movement outwards) and lateral offset (movement side to side). Rubber expansion joint also assist with sound dampening (reducing the amount of high pitch frequency being passed down the piping system) as well as reducing vibration. Finally, they reduce stress forces exerted on rotating and static equipment.
