Highly Effective Biobased Strength Solutions for Fine Papers, TAPPICon22
Chemistry based strength solutions can be challenging in fine papers. Cationic solutions are often limited in these
furnishes due to low cationic demand. Overuse of cationic solutions such as starch, and synthetic (i.e. Fossil Fuel
Based) additives such as GPAM, and wet strength resins can drive the fine paper machine wet end cationic, leading
to runnability issues. Kemira’s EcoBond concept has been developed in part to address these challenging situations.
FennoBond ECA is an anionic, cellulose based additive that has proven effective at increasing sheet strength in fine
papers. The anionic, cellulose based solution not only improves fiber bonding, but also improves efficiency of other
paper machine additives. Significant reductions in retention program chemistries, sizing chemistries, and others have
been realized. Case studies from multiple fine paper machines will be reviewed in this presentation.
TAPPI conference proceedings and presentations, technical papers, and publication articles provide technical and management data and solutions on topics covering the Pulp, Paper, Tissue, Corrugated Packaging, Flexible Packaging, Nanotechnology and Converting Industries.
