The influence of latex level and pigment type on the penetration of hot melt adhesive into coated paperboard, 23TAPPICon
The penetration of hot melt adhesive into coated paperboard influences the efficient use of adhesive and the final bond strength in the production of boxes and other structures. However, little systematic work is reported on this topic and no fundamental modeling of the penetration event. Here, the penetration of a hot melt adhesive is characterized with a silicone oil method, for a range of latex levels and pigment types in the coating layer. The results are compared to a model of the process.
