Pulp And Paper Case Studies Using Data for Asset Performance Management To Sustainably Improve Reliability, Quality And Production, 23TAPPICon
The evolution of digital systems in the pulp and paper industry have a long history of improving mill productivity. This paper will examine areas related to early prediction of equipment failures and improvement in skills of mill operators.
Unscheduled critical equipment degradation and failures prevent mills from efficient and sustainable production. The IoT value proposition is driven by the ability to translate vast quantities of sensor‐based mill data into actionable information that alerts operations and maintenance prior to impending failures.
Mill operators are also critical in maintaining high production levels in mills efficiently. Changes in demographics and demand for trained operators has led to higher turnover in staff in recent years. This has led to higher demand for digital based simulators for controls systems that mimic the process behavior throughout the mill. With these system an operator can practice real life operations scenarios of start ups, shuts down, process upsets and failures while using the offline operating training systems .
