Next Generation APC Model Identification Workflows with AI Enabled Adaptive Advanced Process Control: Pulp and Paper Applications, 23TAPPICon
In this paper, we introduce an AI(Artificial Intelligence) enabled Advanced Process Control (APC) project workflow which is novel to the Pulp and Paper Industry. This innovative workflow starts by identifying a seed model from historical data using model identification algorithms (e.g. Finite Input Response or Subspace algorithms). Subsequently, we utilize a smart multi‐step step testing capability while controlling the process. This eliminates the need to approach APC maintenance as a separate project and creates a continuous background process of assessing model quality, collecting current data, and generating new models as the behavior of the plant process changes over time. This workflow will be applied to a lime kiln modeled as a Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) control problem.
