SASI: A Novel Program to Better Prepare Students for Careers in Process Control and Automation, 23TAPPICon
The skills gap between student preparedness and industry requirements in the area of process control usually results in student reluctance to pursue careers in this area. This lack of student interest is further compounded by overwhelming process control internship experiences that sour students to process control. Yet, the need for engineers with controls and automation expertise is only increasing in the fourth industrial revolution. Today many manufacturing companies are challenged to find engineers equipped with the skills needed to work in a manufacturing plant with modern controls and automation technology. To reduce the gap and pique student interest, Miami University developed a focused intensive training workshop accompanied with a targeted industrial internship in the areas of process control and automation.
