Numerical Analysis of the Impact of Rotor and Screen Hole Plate Design on the Performance of a Vertical Pulper, 23TAPPICon
Dissolving of mechanical pulp is one of the most important process steps within the stock preparation since pulping takes place at the very beginning of the entire papermaking process. Completely mixing of pulp is required in a short amount of time to realize high furnish volume flow rates. The design of the rotor as well as the pulper vat and inserts have a major impact on the overall pulper performance (e. g. mixing efficiency, power demand). The development process can be accelerated by using state-of-the-art numerical methods, like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), since it is possible to analyze the flow phenomena in detail. This is particularly beneficial because the real machine size can be numerically investigated. Compared with an upscaling process of test rigs, time-consuming and cost-intensive experiments can be reduced.
