SetPoint: Is This Your Year?, Paper360º January/February 2024

I spent my first 59 years living in the Midwest, so it’s a bit jarring to be writing this in December with a window open to catch the breeze. I live in Southern California now, where my weather app predicts that tomorrow will hit 80°. What am I supposed to shovel, sunshine? The move has been a big adjustment; after more than a year, things still feel a little “off.”

I don’t think I’m alone in feeling this way. It’s been almost four years since we all first learned the word “Coronavirus” and became part of an officially “critical” industry—but things still feel a little “off.” Many changes to our work environments have persisted. In a world still rocked by tension and lingering change, it feels smart to approach 2024 with a bit of trepidation.
