Conner, who is from Valmet, looks at how changing targets for kraft liquor total titratable alkali (TTA) and causticizing efficiency (CE) impacts different pulp mill unit operations. The study employs advanced measurement and control tools to help maximize both TTA and CE.

• A study from Tran and Bussmann at the University of Toronto proposes that high sulfate content in smelt resulting from low smelt reduction efficiency in recovery boilers may not be the culprit in formation of viscous “jellyroll” smelt. This may instead be caused by incomplete melting of fallen deposits.
