Editorial: Surface energy in printing is the focus of runner-up, TAPPI Journal May 2024
The runner-up paper studies the impact of sheet surface energy on offset printing and attempts to rank its importance against surface porosity and topography. The results showed that: i) in general, surface energy of
coatings is dominated by the latex and formulation additives rather than pigment surface energy; ii) pigment choice primarily influences porosity and topography; and iii) rather surprisingly, the porosity and topography of a coating has a much greater influence on offset lithographic printability compared to surface energy.
