SetPoint: Future-Proofing, Paper360º May/June 2024 

By the time you read this, it will all be over.

TAPPICon, I mean! I’m writing this column the week before I head to Cleveland for TAPPI’s annual conference. I’ve been to many of these outstanding events over the years, but this year I’ll have a role that’s new to me—moderating the important Executive Panel—and I’m a bit nervous. Fortunately, our executive panelists will be doing most of the talking: our topic is “Future-Proofing” the pulp, paper, tissue and packaging industry... and I have a LOT of questions for them.

Future-proofing is the process of setting in motion today the systems, technologies, and processes that will protect us from the vagaries of an unpredictable tomorrow. It’s nice to be ready for something that might happen; it’s better to be ready for anything that might happen. That’s being future-proof. I can’t wait to hear our executive leaders’ ideas about how to prepare our industry for a future coming so fast that, by the time you read this, that future will be here.
