Beyond the Clipboard: Elevating QCS Service, TAPPICon24
The Quality Control System (QCS) plays a key role in modern papermaking processes, serving the crucial functions
of measurement and control from the headbox to the reel. To accomplish this the QCS coordinates a variety
of equipment, all of which require complex and labor-intensive preventative maintenance to stay in peak operating
condition.
The traditional “clipboard” approach to QCS preventative maintenance has limitations in timeliness and efficiency.
Diagnostic information must be recorded and reviewed by qualified personnel, and due to the quantity of
information available, this typically happens only on a weekly basis. Integration of operational and information
technology (OT/IT) allows this same data to be continuously collected and made available to servicing personnel
remotely via a cloud environment, rather than requiring them to seek it on-site.
