Sensor-Based Measurement to Optimize Doctor Blade Load Uniformity, TAPPICon24

The importance of ensuring doctor blade conformity in doctoring systems is often overlooked as a hidden element impacting paper machine efficiency. Sensor based measurement technology is a cutting-edge innovation in the field of doctoring that utilizes advanced sensors and analytical tools to provide mechanical health monitoring and diagnosis. This technology was developed to improve reliability outcomes by enabling visibility of the profile data allowing detection of abnormalities more effectively and efficiently across the contact area of the doctor blade. Utilizing piezo and embedded strain gauge sensor technology is a promising development in roll doctoring with the potential to improve the quality of products, minimize roll cover wear, protect machines from experiencing costly doctor related downtime and diagnose troubled applications without taking invasive measures in removing doctor assemblies to inspect and replace components while troubleshooting. Sensor-based measurement devices identify problems which lead to poor doctoring performance. Sensors are embedded on standard doctor blade material connected in segments to form a single doctor blade allowing the blade to fit most any doctor length and existing holder type. Using this technology to acheive an especially uniform doctor blade contact pressure over the entire width of the roll can avoid damage to roll covers and reduce associated web breaks.
