PRODUCERS AND CONVERTERS
Sofidel has finalized its acquisition of Royal Paper’s assets in
the United States, further strengthening its position in the North
American market. The agreement between Sofidel and Royal
Paper—a recognized player in the US in both the at-home and awayfrom-
home segments—was announced on April 9. Three facilities
in Arizona—the paper mill in Gila Bend (with an annual production
capacity of 61,000 metric tons) and two converting facilities
in Phoenix—and one converting facility in Duncan, SC, officially
become part of Sofidel’s production footprint.
Kimberly-Clark Corporation has announced it has entered into
an agreement with Suzano to form a strategic partnership, creating a
preeminent international tissue and professional products company
and sharpening Kimberly-Clark’s focus on its higher growth, higher
margin businesses. Kimberly-Clark will own a 49 percent interest
in the new venture, which will include substantially all the assets
of its International Family Care and Professional (“IFP”) business,
and Suzano will own 51 percent.
