A Fresh Look at Online-to-Offline Measurement Correlation from A Soft-Sensor Perspective, International Control Systems Conference (TAPPICon26)
Measurements from online sensors are often correlated with the corresponding offline measurements from laboratory instruments. Offline laboratory measurements of the same properties are usually used as the reference measurement. The correlation results are used to adjust online measurements so that the adjusted online measurements match with the offline measurements. Conventionally, this correlation analysis utilizes regression technique that treats the offline reference measurement as an independent variable (regressor). This paper investigates a regression approach in which the online measurement is used as the regressor, similar to the method used to derive a soft-sensor measurement. The noticeably different results obtained using these approaches are explored and discussed.
