Optimizing Energy Use in Pulp & Paper with DOE’s Technical Assistance Resources, TAPPICon26
The U.S. pulp and paper (P&P) industry is the third-largest energy consumer in the manufacturing sector after chemicals and petroleum and coal products; the P&P industry accounted for approximately 10% of the manufacturing energy consumption in 2022. This paper highlights some of the ongoing Technical Assistance activities and available resources relevant to the U.S. P&P industry, including tools, guidance, and support mechanisms designed to accelerate energy-efficiency improvement. A key objective of this paper, and of participation in the TAPPICon® forum, is to obtain industry feedback on the value and practical relevance of these activities and resources. The findings will help inform future technical assistance strategies and improve alignment between available support resources and industry needs.
