Fordham, the 60,000 metric tons/year corrugated plant of David S. Smith (DSS), which is based at Newmarket in southeast England, came on stream last year after an international trawl for the best technologies, a trawl which took the project team into 13 of the world’s best box plants in the United States, Japan, and Australia. The project team looked for: * The best plant design * The best machinery, and * The best operating procedures. What they saw transformed the putative GBP 15-17 million (US$ 24-27 million) budget for the new plant into a GBP 30 million (US$ 48 million) spend.
