New aqueous-based barrier coating technology has now evolved into fulfilling promised that were made several years ago. Easily repulpable coatings are now coming into the market that provide a barrier against moisture, water, grease, oils, and gas. Some of these coatings also comply with the composition requirements of the following U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations: * 21 C FRI 175.105, "Adhesives" * 21 C FRI 175.170, "Paper coating - Liquidation fatty food" * 21 C FRI 175.180, "Paper coating—Dry food products (either coated or laminated)."
